Austin Bagel Shop Rosen’s opens new store in North Burnet

Austin Rosen’s bagel store is opening its first-ever physical store this month. The store 11101 Burnet Road, Suite 100 in the North Burnet area opened from Thursday 13 January for takeout and patio dining services only at this stage.

The Rosen’s store offers New York-style bagels in flavors such as plain, everything, jalapeno-cheddar, and cinnamon-raisin. Cream cheeses range from plain tomato, sun-dried tomato, lime-roasted poblano-shallot, blueberry, and vegan. There’s also a lox bagel sandwich made with Nova lox, lemon-basil cream cheese, tomatoes, onions, and capers. As for drinks, there’s currently drip coffee and cold brew by Tiny House Coffee Roasters.

Later, Rosen’s will expand the food menu with more bagel and sandwich options, as well as salads, soups, and a dedicated kids’ menu, as well as espresso drinks, beer, and wines. Physically, there are plans to add a drive-thru and a retail market section with Babka ATX baked goods, canned fish, coffee beans, merchandise, etc.

Rosen’s new space features a display of baskets of bagels and a deli case of schmears and toppings – reminiscent of bagel shops in New York City. There’s also a counter lined with coins and subway tiles with a glowing sun mosaic. It was all designed by Lilanne Steckel, who also worked on Better Half, Bird Bird Biscuit and Austin Eastciders’ Barton Springs location.

Founder Tom Rosen launched his eponymous business in 2017 as a pop-up and always intended to open a physical location. Since then, the bagels have been retailed through Whole Foods and its website, as well as various Austin cafes and restaurants. There had been stints at Brew & Brew and WeWork’s Barton Springs.

The North Burnet store is currently only open for take-out services with orders placed in person or online. Two terraces are available for those wishing to dine on site. When the current COVID-19 surge subsides, the store will open its indoor ordering and dining areas.

Rosen hours of operation are 7 a.m. to noon or until sold out, Thursday through Sunday. Hours will expand later.
