Louise Mary Wilcox, 92, of Saranac Lake, died Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at Plattsburgh Rehabilitation Center in Plattsburgh.

Louise was born in Redford on December 27, 1929, the daughter of Spencer and Stella (Delcor) Branch. Louise married the love of her life, Ellsworth “Red” Wilcox on September 6, 1948 at St. Bernard Church in Saranac Lake, and raised her six children there.

Louise has resided her entire life in Saranac Lake. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court St. Bernard’s in Saranac Lake, and for many years volunteered at Saranac Lake General Hospital and the Adirondack Medical Center. Louise was also a dedicated election worker responsible for numerous elections in Franklin County. Louise loved to read and could often be found reading a romance novel or watching Hallmark and Lifetime movies. Louise’s favorite time of year was Christmas when she loved decorating not just the living room where the Christmas tree was, but every room in the house. She liked to bake cookies and different breads for all her family and friends, which everyone looked forward to.

Everyone had their favorites and she made sure they had extras. Louise loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved challenging them to a mean game of rummy. She was also fond of cardinal birds and very much enjoyed hanging out with her friends twice a week for coffee at McDonald’s, McKenizie’s and the Blue Moon Café. Sometimes they allowed their spouses to join them.

Louise is survived by her daughters: Sharon Langdell of Saranac Lake and Darlene Wilcox of Theresa, New York; his sons: Steve (Margaret) Wilcox of Saranac Lake, Craig (Donna) Wilcox of Tupper Lake, Brad Wilcox of Saranac Lake and Michael “Opie” (Amber) Wilcox of Lake Saranac. Louise is also survived by her brother Augustine Branch and 20 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves to mourn several nieces and nephews.

Louise was predeceased by her husband “Red”; his father and his mother; his sisters, Rose M. Glover and Mary Miller; and his brothers, Harlan, Roland, Richard, Marshall, Donald, Joseph, George and Jerome “Champion” Fork.

Funeral arrangements are handled by Fortune-Keough Funeral Home. Call times will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, July 7 from 10 a.m. to noon.

A Christian burial mass will be held at St. Bernard Church at 12:30 p.m. with Reverend Martin Cline officiating. Interment will take place immediately after Mass in the family plot at St. Bernard Cemetery in Saranac Lake.
