Sea Bird wins Independence Day Cup with record performance
LAHORE: Stylish three-year-old colt Sea Bird lived up to his reputation by claiming a record win in the Independence Day Cup at the Lahore Summer Special held as part of the 75th National Independence Day celebrations here at the flood-lit Racecourse on Sunday.
Son of Enak and Runaway Cherie, Sea Bird clocked a runaway success clocking a record time of one minute, 17 3/5 seconds over the 1,300 meter run, bettering the record by one minute, 18 seconds . by bay horse Gujrat One in 2018. He beat filly Queen by eight lengths, who sniffed out Fox Trot in third place.
The main supporting event, the Jashn-e-Azadi Cup run over 1,100 meters, was won by bay horse Silent Assassin, who recorded an easy bay success Drums Of War by a distance in one minute, 5 1/ 5 seconds.
Once again equestrian connoisseurs witnessed some impressive racing action at the Sardar Abdur Rab Nishtar Cup in which the chestnut horse Galactic Song scored a stunning win to claim the cup named after one close comrades of the Father of the Nation, Quaid-i-Azam. Mohammad Ali Jinnah.
The favorite bay colt Chacha won the third race convincingly. He opened up a 60-100 favourite, but soon his chances increased to even when it was suspected that something was wrong with the colt. First bay colts Wonder Boy and Chota Pathan won the first and second races respectively.
