Last night, The National made its debut at the Capitol Theater in Port Chester, NY in a Sound on Sound related event. The band took the opportunity to debut a new song, “Moon Drop Light,” which they mentioned they wrote last Thursday.
Other highlights of the show include a nod to the venue with set opener “Don’t Swallow the Cap”, fan favorites “Buzzblood Ohio”, “Pink Rabbits”, “Graceless” and the closer set “Fake Empire” again with the opening of their August 22 release with Bon Iver, “Weird Goodbyes”. Guitarist Aaron Dessner also teased the classic Jerry Garcia/Robert Hunter “Bird Song,” which the Grateful Dead debuted at the Capitol Theater in 1971, a few times near the end of the show.
Of note, Dessner, along with The National’s Scott and Bryan Devendorf, performed at the Capitol Theater in 2016 when they supported Bob Weir.
